Actress Shraddha Kapoor recently had a light-hearted argument with ‘Stree 2’ director Amar Kaushik over his recent comment likening her laughter to that of a ‘chudail’ (witch). The incident follows after Kaushik was criticized by Kapoor’s fans for his statement.
At the event, while moments of the pair were being photographed, Kapoor playfully teased Kaushik by remarking, “Yeh bohut joke maarahe hai na aajkal?” (“He’s cracking a lot of jokes these days, right?”). Kaushik, in response, held his ears in an act of apology, recognizing the jest and the previous backlash.
Keeping up the playful taunts, Kapoor ventured, “Thoda darate hai inko” (“Let’s scare him a little”), moving forward with laughter. Kaushik joining in on the jest, heaved mock fright and said, “Mujhe darr lagraha hai. Sabse zyada aapke fans se mujhe darr lagraha hai” (“I’m getting afraid. I’m most afraid of your fans”).
The row started when Kaushik, on an episode of Komal Nahta’s podcast ‘Game Changers’, reminisced about the casting of ‘Stree’. He said that producer Dinesh Vijan had complimented Kapoor on her unique laugh, described as similar to a witch, which was the basis on which she was cast. This little recollection was not appreciated by some fans and led to criticism of Kaushik’s choice of words online.
Kapoor’s latest release, ‘Stree 2’, had her reprising her character along with RajKummar Rao, and co-starring alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The movie also had special appearances from Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar. The success of the franchise led the makers to announce the third part, directed by Kaushik, which is scheduled to be released on August 13, 2027.
