BCCI Rejig Support Staff, Abhishek Nayar Terminated

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided in a big rejig to bid adieu to Abhishek Nayar, the support staff assistant coach of the Indian men’s national team. The BCCI did so as a part of their general rejigging of support staff and gave him the push only eight months after his initial appointment under chief coach Gautam Gambhir.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the development and said that an announcement would be made in the near future. According to him, the board is currently working out the details and would clarify the situation at the earliest. Saikia also reiterated that the review and restructuring process was done with consultation from the important members of the BCCI, selectors, and the Indian team’s management.

The move to drop Nayar comes after a review meeting where issues regarding the current support staff setup were brought up. The BCCI is said to be considering how to make the coaching staff more streamlined to improve efficiency and performance. The addition of Sitanshu Kotak as a second batting coach earlier this year may also have been a contributing factor to the decision.

Reports indicate that there were some internal conflicts among the support staff, with some of them questioning Nayar’s place and utility under the current system. This internal conflict is said to have informed the decision to go their separate ways with him.

As BCCI goes ahead with this transition, the emphasis will be on enhancing the performance of the team in future international missions. More information on the restructuring of the support staff is likely to be released shortly, as the board strives to seal the new coaching setup.
